Understanding Our Mission: Recovery First, Skills Second
Choosing a vocational path is a significant step toward your future, but it is important to understand that these tracks are not standalone services. Vocational training at the Chico Rescue Mission is an integrated "rider" to our primary 12-month Christ-centered rehabilitation program. While the skills you learn here are invaluable for your career, they are designed to complement the deeper spiritual and character-building work required for true restoration. We encourage you to look at these opportunities as a powerful addition to your recovery journey, rather than the sole reason for joining the Mission.
The best way to truly understand how our vocational tracks fit into your new life is to see them in action. We invite you to contact us today to schedule a time to come in, tour our "outdoor classrooms," and get all your questions answered by our staff.
The Foundations of Transformation
Character & Discipline
-
Core Value: Personal Responsibility
-
Actionable Result: Daily Spiritual Routine
The primary goal of our vocational tracks is to instill a sense of personal responsibility and spiritual discipline. By committing to a daily routine and following through on technical tasks, disciples learn that consistency is the bedrock of a successful life in recovery.
Technical Life Skills
-
Core Value: Professional Excellence
-
Actionable Result: Marketable Trade Mastery
Whether it is learning the mechanics of an engine, the precision of professional detailing, or the logistics of landscaping, our men gain practical, marketable skills. These "outdoor classrooms" provide a safe environment to fail, learn, and eventually master a trade that can support them and their families.
Leadership & Mentorship
-
Core Value: Community Accountability
-
Actionable Result: Peer Support & Guidance
As men progress through their 12-month journey, they are given opportunities to lead and mentor newer disciples within the shops. This builds the social confidence and communication skills necessary for healthy community integration and professional success after graduation.
We don't just give you a place to stay; we give you the tools to build a career and a future.
